One of Simplicity’s most interesting projects, we were tasked with replicating the existing hull of Mary Rose. A ship located in the sea 437 years after it had sunk in 1545. When found the Mary Rose museum wanted to have the other half presented in the museum too. Que Simplicity Specialist Finishes. With the aid of CAD (computer aided design) we were able to model, manufacture and install a correct replica of the missing half of the original ship.

The project began through digitally scanning the ship and then reproducing the ship into 2D drawings. We then went on to manufacture 99 moulds, to include features within the original ship, including canon knees and gun ports. Sections were then manufactured in GRG for its lighter weight and durability attributes. We then built a bespoke metal framework system, to allow the panels to be wired and wadded into place. There were restrictions with the space in the museum in which the hull needed to sit. Due to the nature of the restrictions, we built the ship from the inside-out.

We couldn’t be more pleased with the end result. Mary Rose was a fun project for the team, which had all team members thinking differently to offer the best service throughout.
